• While Guerrero may have made the biggest impression in the 2019 Derby, it was Alonso who walked away with the trophy (and the $1 million prize). He remains the only player in AL or NL history to homer in four straight games to begin his career, with six total dingers in that span. Batters are awarded 30 seconds of bonus time at the conclusion of each regulation period. A batter can earn an additional 30 seconds by belting out a home run over 440 feet during the regulation period. The Derby is a single-elimination bracket event with three rounds. During the first two rounds, each batter has three minutes to belt out as many home runs as they can.
Each contestant has three minutes in the first and second rounds to hit as many home runs as he can. Players can also receive bonus time based on home run distance. Each batter gets one one 45-second timeout in each of the regulation periods (i.e., not during any bonus time that's added on). Any tie in any round will be broken by a 60-second "swing off." The winner receives a $1 million prize.

The top four in home runs advanced to the semifinals, working to narrow the field down to just the remaining two for the final round. The winner of the Derby takes home $1 million, thanks to a new agreement between MLB and the MLB Players Association put in place prior to the 2019 season.
